An Open Thank You Letter to My Mom
Dear Mom,
Now that I am a Mom myself, I realize there are so many things you must have gone through raising three kids that I never understood until now. I wanted to write to you to share with you, and anyone else who wants to hear about you, how grateful I am for everything you do.
First of all, thanks for deciding that one child was not enough for you and Dad. Imagine if you were a one and done kind of family? Thank you for safely keeping me in your womb for months, all while chasing Alison around I'm sure. I know you expected me to be a boy, or probably wanted a boy since you already had a girl. Thank you for always making me feel special, even though I was the second born. Thank you for my middle name. I carry Christopher in my heart forever and always. Thank you for the gift of the best guardian angel that I never knew, but I know that I have. I feel him with me all the time. He's my silent cheerleader. Thank you for your patience. Through endless doctors appointments as a kid for my ears, eyes and teeth, all the way to being my live in nurse while I was on bed-rest and pregnant with Michaela. Thank you for your faith. I admire your belief and strong dedication to God. Thank you for always listening to me. I wanted to be in a play, you signed me up for the local children's theater. I wanted to learn piano like my big sister and then I was in lessons soon thereafter. And even though I showed up to that first piano lesson and tricked the teacher into letting me sing instead, you still let me go to my next lesson and promised to let me take singing lessons soon. I wanted to play every sport under the sun and you made sure to sign me up for that too. Thank you for being my softball coach. At first I remember being sort of embarrassed and annoyed that you'd be my softball coach. Now I hope I get to do the same thing for my kids. Thank you for making school a priority and making sure I always did my homework. Thank you for always being my biggest fan. It wasn't always easy being the artsy kid and you have no idea how much I appreciate you cheering me on from the crowd at every single show, whether I was the lead or the chorus or even just an understudy. Thank you for not telling me how I was ripping your heart into a million pieces when I told you I wanted to move across the country. Now that I have two babies of my own, I can not even begin to imagine how hard it has been for you to have me all the way on the west coast for so many years. I am sorry to always be so far away from you, but I am so grateful that I have always had your support no matter what I decided to do. There are many other things I'd like to thank you for, but more than anything, thank you for your beyond unconditional love. I don't make it easy. I can be difficult, sarcastic, a cry baby and insane. No matter how poorly I've ever behaved you have never stopped loving me. I'm so lucky. People tell me all the time how lucky I am and I shrug it off like it is no big deal, but I honestly thing that Alison, Greg, and I are the luckiest kids on the planet for getting your as our Mom. Thank you, for all of it. I love you.
Your Middle Child,
Danielle Christopher
